The Morning After

I always pay attention to my "morning song." The one thing you may not know about me is: I ALWAYS have a morning song. Some days I wake up to Gino Vannelli singing, "Wheels of Life", or Frank Sinatra buzzin', "My Way", but most days are greeted with dumb little pithy songs like Bugs Bunny's, "Oooohhhh, You Never Know Where You're Goin' 'Til You Get There!" Welcome to the ADOS brain of Sue Duffield. My son says I have "Attention Deficit "Oooh Shiny" disease! Guess you have to be here to get it. ... I don't know how many of you have a song list playing in your head, but mine runs 24-7. It's what old DJs do. Always a play list; always a pun or story! I have no idea why, but any time of the day you can ask me what's playing and I can dig into that section of my brain and pull out the file box where the song is "listed". So this morning, Maureen McGovern was singing loud and clear, "There's Got To Be A Morning After" (theme from "The Poseidon Adventure", the campy and consummate 70s disaster flick, complete with ensemble cast - Ernest Borgnine, Red Buttons, Gene Hackman, to name a few!) But for the sake of this 2009 Christmas Day celebration's aftermath, with NO cinnamon buns left, and enough left overs in the frig to feed Sumner County, I had to wonder about this "visitation" of this particular song today. It truly does describe my hopefulness and desire to stay positive amidst a harsh and critical "live for the moment" world. It's kind of like the 70s version of what The Message would have said, describing Jeremiah 29:11....."This is God's Word on the subject: "As soon as Babylon's seventy years are up and not a day before, I'll show up and take care of you as I promised and bring you back home. I know what I'm doing. I have it all planned out—plans to take care of you, not abandon you, plans to give you the future you hope for."
What will happen to you when the party's over? I pray you can sing on, 70s child. There truly HAS to be a morning after! Read on.

THE MORNING AFTER
(All Kasha and Joel Hirshhorn)

There's got to be a morning after
If we can hold on through the night
We have a chance to find the sunshine
Let's keep on lookin' for the light

Oh, can't you see the morning after
It's waiting right outside the storm
Why don't we cross the bridge together
And find a place that's safe and warm

It's not too late, we should be giving
Only with love can we climb
It's not too late, not while we're living
Let's put our hands out in time

There's got to be a morning after
We're moving closer to the shore
I know we'll be there by tomorrow
And we'll escape the darkness
We won't be searchin' any more

There's got to be a morning after
(There's got to be a morning after)
There's got to be a morning after
(There's got to be a morning after)
There's got to be a morning after
(There's got to be a morning after)
There's got to be a morning after
(There's got to be a morning after)
There's got to be a morning after
